Exterior Murals

Exterior murals make a statement — but outdoor surfaces demand careful planning. We offer direct-to-wall printing for exterior walls with thorough surface assessment, weather consideration, and on-site testing to ensure a result that holds up.

Key Benefits

UV-resistant inks formulated for outdoor exposure
On-site surface testing before committing to a full print
Protective coatings for added weather and abrasion resistance
Same precision and detail as our interior work
No vinyl panels to peel, warp, or delaminate
Collaborative approach to managing outdoor variables

Ideal For

Restaurants and bars with exterior walls Retail storefronts and shopping centers Breweries and taprooms Community and public art projects Building owners looking to enhance curb appeal Event venues and outdoor gathering spaces

Our Process

1

Site Walk & Assessment

We visit the wall to evaluate surface condition, texture, sun exposure, and access.

2

Surface Testing

A small test area is printed to confirm ink adhesion and visual quality on the actual surface.

3

Design & Proofing

Artwork is finalized with consideration for viewing distance, sunlight, and scale.

4

Surface Preparation

The wall is cleaned, repaired, and primed with an exterior-grade base coat.

5

Printing

The mural is printed on-site with weather-resistant inks and careful environmental monitoring.

6

Protective Finish

A UV-resistant clear coat is applied to extend the life of the print.

Compatible Surfaces

Smooth stucco (fine finish) Primed concrete block Painted brick (with surface prep) Smooth poured concrete Primed cement board

Outdoor Walls, Honest Expectations

Exterior murals are compelling — a well-executed outdoor wall can transform a building’s presence and become a landmark in its own right. But printing outdoors introduces variables that don’t exist inside: UV exposure, moisture, temperature swings, surface porosity, and texture. We take these seriously, and we’d rather have an honest conversation about feasibility than overpromise and underdeliver.

That’s why every exterior project begins with a site walk. We assess the wall’s surface condition, orientation, sun exposure, and access. If the surface is a good candidate, we proceed with a small test print to confirm adhesion and visual quality before committing to the full mural. If it’s not a good fit, we’ll tell you — and discuss alternatives.

The Right Surface Makes the Difference

Direct-to-wall printing works best on smooth or lightly textured surfaces. For exteriors, that typically means fine-finish stucco, primed concrete block, smooth poured concrete, or painted brick that’s been properly prepared. Heavily textured stucco, rough-cut stone, and unpainted cinder block are generally not ideal candidates without additional surface work.

When the surface is right, the results are striking. The same precision that produces photo-real interior murals translates to outdoor walls — with the addition of UV-resistant inks and a protective clear coat designed to extend the life of the print. For businesses, an exterior mural can complement your interior brand environment and create a cohesive visual identity from the street to the front door.

Built to Last, Within Reason

We use inks and coatings formulated for outdoor durability, and we prep surfaces with exterior-grade primers designed for the specific wall material. But we’re also straightforward: an exterior print is exposed to the elements in a way that interior work is not, and longevity will vary based on conditions. South-facing walls in direct sun will age differently than a shaded north-facing wall.

We discuss all of this during the assessment phase so you can make an informed decision. Our goal is a result you’re proud of — and one that holds up. If you’re ready to explore whether your exterior wall is a good candidate, get a quote and we’ll schedule a site walk. For details on our general process, visit How It Works. And if your artwork needs preparation for large-scale output, our design and file prep team is here to help.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long will an exterior mural last?

Longevity depends on several factors: sun exposure, wall orientation, surface material, and local weather conditions. With proper surface prep and a protective clear coat, most exterior prints hold up well for several years. We're transparent about expectations during the assessment phase.

Can you print on rough stucco or heavily textured surfaces?

Heavy textures are challenging for direct-to-wall printing. During our site walk, we evaluate the surface and will be straightforward about whether it's a good candidate. In some cases, a skim coat or surface refinishing can make a rough wall printable.

What happens if it rains during installation?

We monitor weather forecasts closely and schedule exterior work during dry periods. If conditions change unexpectedly, we pause and protect the work in progress. We won't compromise quality for the sake of a timeline.

Do you handle permits or HOA approvals?

Permitting and HOA requirements vary by location. We can provide documentation, mockups, and specifications to support your approval process, but the permit application itself is typically the property owner's responsibility.
