Pediatric Clinic Wayfinding for Bright Horizons Pediatrics

Objective: Bright Horizons Pediatrics needed a wayfinding system that helped families navigate their multi-suite clinic while keeping the environment warm and child-friendly.

Design Approach: We designed a typographic wayfinding system using playful, rounded letterforms in a calming color palette, printed directly onto corridor walls with integrated directional cues.

Bright Horizons Pediatrics operates a busy multi-provider clinic in Yorba Linda with six exam rooms, a lab, an imaging suite, and separate well-child and sick-child waiting areas. The layout is efficient from a clinical standpoint, but families — especially first-time visitors — found it confusing. The existing wayfinding consisted of small plastic plaques that blended into the walls and did little to reduce the anxiety that comes with bringing a child to the doctor.

We developed a wall-printed typographic system that turns the corridors themselves into intuitive guides. Each department is identified by oversized lettering in a soft, rounded typeface — friendly without being cartoonish. The color coding is deliberate: warm coral for well-child areas, soft blue for sick-child areas, and a neutral sage for shared spaces like the lab and check-out. Subtle arrow forms are integrated into the letterforms themselves, so directional cues feel like part of the design rather than an afterthought.

The printing process allowed us to work around existing fixtures, outlet covers, and door frames with precision that would be difficult to achieve with traditional signage or vinyl decals. Since the installation, the front desk staff has reported noticeably fewer directional questions from families. More importantly, parents have shared that the space feels thoughtful and reassuring — exactly the impression a pediatric clinic should make.
