Farm-to-Table Feature Wall for Verdant Kitchen

Objective: Verdant Kitchen wanted a feature wall that told the story of their sourcing philosophy and gave diners a visual connection to the farms behind their menu.

Design Approach: We designed an illustrated landscape mural depicting rolling farmland, citrus groves, and coastal hills in a muted, hand-drawn style that complements the restaurant's earthy interior palette.

Verdant Kitchen is a farm-to-table restaurant in Old Towne Orange that takes its sourcing seriously — every menu item traces back to a named grower within a hundred miles. But that story was invisible inside the dining room. The walls were a pleasant sage green, the furniture was warm and inviting, yet nothing in the space communicated the philosophy that makes Verdant Kitchen different from every other restaurant on the block.

We worked closely with the chef-owner to develop an illustrated mural that maps the restaurant’s supply chain in a way that feels artistic rather than didactic. The composition flows left to right across 24 feet: coastal bluffs give way to rolling hills, then citrus groves, then rows of seasonal vegetables, and finally a farmhouse that echoes the restaurant’s own architecture. The palette stays within a tight range of warm ochres, soft greens, and cream — designed to feel like it’s always been part of the room.

The mural was printed directly onto the plaster wall, preserving the subtle texture of the original surface. Since installation, Verdant Kitchen has been featured in Orange County Register’s dining section and a regional food blog, both of which highlighted the mural as a defining element of the experience. Diners frequently photograph it, and the restaurant now uses the wall as the backdrop for seasonal menu announcements on social media.
