How It Works

Direct-to-wall printing uses a precision robotic printer that mounts to your wall and applies your design directly onto the surface — no vinyl, no hand-painting, no guesswork. Here's what the process looks like from start to finish.

The Process, Step by Step

From first measurement to final walkthrough, here's how every project unfolds.

1

Measure

We assess your wall dimensions, surface type, and site conditions — in person or from photos you provide.

2

Mockup

We create a scaled digital mockup so you can see exactly how your design will look on the wall before we print.

3

Prep

The wall is cleaned, primed if needed, and any obstacles are masked. Proper prep ensures the best adhesion and color accuracy.

4

Print

Our robotic printer mounts to the wall and applies your design directly — layer by layer, with sub-millimeter precision.

5

Detail Check

We inspect every section for color consistency, edge sharpness, and coverage. Touch-ups are handled on the spot.

6

Seal (Optional)

For high-traffic or exterior walls, we apply a protective topcoat to extend the life of the print.

7

Walkthrough

We walk through the finished result with you on-site to make sure everything meets your expectations.

What We Need From You

To get started with a quote, we just need a few basics. Don't worry about having everything perfect — we'll guide you through the details.

Wall Dimensions

Height and width of the print area (approximate is fine to start)

Surface Photos

A few photos of the wall showing texture, color, and any obstacles

Design File

Your artwork, logo, or concept — or we can help create one

Where It Works Best

Direct-to-wall printing works on a variety of surfaces. Here's what to expect for each type.

Smooth Drywall

Ideal

Best results — sharp detail, full color range

Lightly Textured Drywall

Good

Great results on most textures; test print recommended for heavy knockdown

Concrete (smooth/sealed)

Good

Works well when sealed; industrial aesthetic

Brick (sealed)

Possible

Possible with proper prep and sealing; artistic/distressed look

Wood Panels

Good

Smooth or lightly grained panels print well

Metal Doors & Panels

Good

Primed metal accepts print cleanly

Glass

Possible

Specialty application — contact us for details

Heavily Textured / Popcorn

Not Recommended

Not recommended — skim coat or resurfacing needed first

Why Direct-to-Wall Printing

Compared to vinyl wraps, hand-painting, or wallpaper, direct-to-wall printing offers a combination of speed, quality, and consistency that's hard to match.

Speed

Most walls are printed in a single day. Large-scale murals that would take a painter weeks are completed in hours.

Precision

Sub-millimeter accuracy means clean lines, smooth gradients, and photo-realistic detail — consistently, every time.

Repeatability

Need the same design on multiple walls or locations? The output is identical every time, with no variation.

No Seams

Unlike vinyl wraps, direct-to-wall printing produces a seamless result with no edges, bubbles, or peeling.

Common Questions

How long does a typical install take?

Most single-wall projects are completed in one day. Larger multi-wall projects may take 2-3 days. We'll provide a timeline estimate with your quote.

Do I need to move furniture?

We need clear access to the wall — typically 4-6 feet of clearance. We can work around some fixtures, but clearing the area gives the best results.

Is the process noisy or messy?

The printer operates at a moderate noise level — comparable to a large inkjet printer. There's minimal mess, and we protect your floors and surrounding surfaces.

What if I don't have a design?

No problem. Our design and file prep service can help you develop a concept, scale existing artwork, or create something from scratch.

Can you print on any wall?

We get the best results on smooth to moderately textured surfaces. For unusual surfaces like brick or concrete, we recommend a site walk and test print. See our surface guide below.
