Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about direct-to-wall printing — from surfaces and timelines to pricing and design support.
General
What areas do you serve?
We're based in Brea, CA and serve all of Southern California, including Orange County, Los Angeles County, the Inland Empire, and San Diego County. For larger projects, we travel throughout California and neighboring states. Check our service areas page for details.
What is direct-to-wall printing?
Direct-to-wall printing uses specialized printers to apply UV-cured or latex ink directly onto a wall surface — no vinyl, no adhesive, no substrate. The result is a seamless, durable graphic that looks painted on. Learn more about how our process works.
What's the difference between wall printing and vinyl wraps?
Direct-to-wall printing applies ink directly onto the wall surface — no adhesive film, no seams. Vinyl wraps are printed on adhesive-backed film and applied to the wall in panels. Wall printing is more durable, seamless, and works on textured surfaces where vinyl can't adhere. See our full comparison.
Process
How long does a wall print take?
Most single-wall projects are completed in one day. Larger installations — multiple walls or full-room wraps — typically take 2–3 days depending on surface area and complexity. We'll provide a specific timeline when you request a quote.
Can you print around outlets and switches?
Yes. Our printers navigate around electrical outlets, switches, thermostats, and other wall-mounted fixtures. We print right up to the edge of each obstacle for a seamless look. Just remove the cover plates before print day and reinstall them after.
How large can a wall print be?
There's no practical size limit. Our printers work in passes across the wall surface, so we can cover walls of any width and height — from a small accent panel to an entire building facade. The only constraint is physical access for the printer equipment, which requires about 4–6 feet of clearance.
How soon can you start my project?
Lead times depend on current scheduling and project scope. Most projects can be scheduled within 1–2 weeks of design approval. Rush timelines are available for time-sensitive installations. Request a quote with your preferred timeline and we'll confirm availability.
Is the printing process noisy or messy?
The printer operates at a moderate noise level — comparable to a large office printer. There's no spray, no overspray, and no paint fumes. The ink is applied precisely by the print head, so there's virtually no mess. Most businesses remain open during installation with minimal disruption.
Surfaces
What surfaces can you print on?
We print on drywall, concrete, brick, stucco, wood, and most other rigid wall surfaces. Surface porosity and texture affect the approach, but our printers adapt to a wide range of materials. See our process page for details on surface compatibility.
Can you print on textured walls?
Yes. Our printers handle light-to-moderate textures like orange peel and knockdown without issue. Heavy textures may soften fine detail, but bold graphics and large-scale designs still look excellent. For the sharpest results on heavily textured walls, we may recommend skim-coating the surface before printing.
How do I prepare my wall before printing?
The wall should be clean, dry, patched, and primed with a white or light-colored primer. Remove any loose paint, fill holes or cracks, and clear furniture and fixtures from the area. We provide detailed prep instructions for your specific surface type after booking. See our process page for a full overview.
Do you print on brick walls?
Yes. Brick is one of the most popular surfaces for direct-to-wall printing, especially for exterior murals and industrial-style interiors. The ink fills the mortar joints and brick texture, creating a look that feels hand-painted. We adjust ink volume to ensure full coverage on porous masonry.
Can you print on concrete walls?
Yes. Concrete is an excellent surface for direct-to-wall printing. We seal the surface first to control ink absorption, then print with adjusted ink volume for full coverage. The natural texture of concrete adds character to the finished print, especially for industrial and urban-style designs.
Can you print on glass?
Direct-to-wall printers are designed for opaque, rigid surfaces — not glass. For glass surfaces, we recommend vinyl application or specialized UV flatbed printing on panels that can be mounted to the glass. Contact us to discuss alternatives for glass installations.
Design
Do you provide design help?
Yes. Our design and file prep service covers everything from concept development to print-ready artwork. Whether you need a full custom design or just help adapting existing brand assets to wall dimensions, we'll get your files ready for a clean print.
What file formats do you need?
We prefer vector files (AI, EPS, SVG) for logos and graphics, and high-resolution rasters (TIFF, PSD, PNG) at 150+ DPI at print size for photographic imagery. If you're unsure about your files, send what you have — our design team can assess and advise.
Can you match my brand colors exactly?
We use professional color management and can match Pantone, CMYK, and hex color values with high accuracy. For critical brand colors, we print physical samples on your actual wall surface so you can verify the match under your space's lighting before we commit to the full print.
Can I see a mockup before printing?
Absolutely. Every project includes a digital mockup showing your design scaled to your wall dimensions, so you can see exactly how it will look before we print. We revise the mockup until you're satisfied. For color-critical projects, we also offer physical test prints on your actual wall surface.
What happens if I don't have a design file?
No problem. Many clients come to us with just an idea or a rough concept. Our design and file prep team can develop original artwork, adapt existing brand assets, or source imagery to create a print-ready design that fits your wall and your vision.
Pricing
How do you price wall printing projects?
Pricing is based on total print area (square footage), surface type, design complexity, and location. We provide detailed quotes after reviewing your wall dimensions, photos, and design requirements. Request a free quote to get a specific estimate for your project.
Durability
Is direct-to-wall printing durable outdoors?
Yes. We use UV-resistant inks and apply protective coatings for all exterior mural projects. Outdoor prints typically last 5–7+ years depending on sun exposure, weather conditions, and surface type. South-facing walls in direct sunlight will fade faster than shaded surfaces.
Do printed walls need to be sealed?
Interior prints on sealed drywall typically don't require additional sealing. For high-traffic areas, kitchens, bathrooms, and all exterior surfaces, we apply a clear protective coating that adds scratch resistance, moisture protection, and UV stability. We'll recommend the right finish for your specific environment.
Can a wall print be removed or painted over?
Yes. Unlike vinyl wraps, direct-to-wall prints can be painted over with standard interior paint and primer. There's no adhesive to peel, no residue to scrape, and no surface damage. A coat of primer followed by your new paint color is all it takes to start fresh.
Do you offer a warranty?
Yes. We stand behind every print. Interior projects include a warranty against peeling, cracking, and significant fading under normal conditions. Exterior projects are warranted with consideration for environmental exposure. Specific warranty terms are included in your project proposal. Contact us for details.
Do you offer touch-ups or reprints?
Yes. If a printed wall is damaged — by construction, accidental impact, or wear — we can reprint the affected section to match the original. We keep project files on record so reprints are fast and color-accurate. Reach out to schedule a touch-up.
